The unexplored terrain of the Uttarakhand region will provide you the best trekking experience.
As most people are not aware of the Brahmatal trek, this makes it even more appealing for the visitors. As the name suggests, Brahmatal means ‘The Lake of Lord Brahma’. According to the beliefs, Lord Brahma meditated here, thus, the lake got its name. It is located at an altitude of 10,440 feet giving a scenic view surrounded by giant mountains. The landscape here changes exclusively according to the different seasons. During winters, there are snow-drifted forests and frozen lakes while the summers exhibit lush greenery all around with beautiful meadows and leafy Oak trees and the sun shining brightly on the mountain peaks.
Brahmatal Lake is an all-season trek with a plethora of natural artistry. USP of this trek is the lakeside camping at lake of Bekaltal which is done in a serene and peaceful environment. The summit showcases the magnificent Mt.Trishul, Nandaghunti, Neelkanth, Mt. Kamet and Chaukhamba. Brahmatal lake has a charm which is hard to resist. The views of Nanda Devi peak, Mount Trishul and Mount Kamet is breathtaking. The base camp of this trek is Lohajung which is famous for the story that Goddess Parvati had a fight with Lohasur and killed him at this place.
The trek
Brahmatal trek covers a distance of 30 kms taking you to a height of 12,250 feet. The starting point of this trek is Lohajung, which is at a distance of 210 kms from Kathgodam. It takes approximately 10 hours from Kathgodam to Lohajung. The second stop is Bekaltal and then your final destination is Brahmatal.
The base camp of this trek is Lohajung, which is at a distance of 210 kms from Kathgodam. Drive through the charming path offering scenic views throughout the drive. You will witness high altitude peaks of Mt. Trishul, Maiktoli, Nanda Devi, Ghori Parvat, Nanda Khat, Hathi Parvat, and Ghori Parvat. The alluring hill stations of Bhimtal, Almora, Baijnath, and Kausani are also on the way. A short break will be taken at Kausani for refreshments before checking in at the guesthouse for an overnight stay at Lohajung.
Start day 2 with a nice and delicious breakfast and start your trek with a fresh mind. A 6 kms trek will be done in approximately 4-5 hours. You will come across beautiful mountain streams, wooden bridges and enchanting views of Nandaghunti Peak. After completing this journey you will finally reach the picturesque Bekaltal Lake surrounded by oak trees. Spend the night in tents at Bekaltal campsite.
On day 3, your trek till Brahmatal lake starts.It will take around 6 hours to reach there. Making your way through steep slopes you will reach a meadow called Telindi top.
Enjoy the views of mighty Himalayas before proceeding from Brahmatal (also known as Khabekhal Lake). Overnight stay is arranged in tents at the campsite.
Day 4 will be important as you will finally climb to the top of Brahmatal. Some tricky trails at Chota Jhandidar and Bada Jhandidar awaits you. Be careful while covering steep path of around 2.5 hours to reach the top. During this climb you will get an exotic and close-up view of Mt.Trishul and Nandaghunti. Also, take in the beauty of Chaukhambha, Nilgiri, Neelkanth, Maituli, Mana, Mt.Trishul, Nandaghunti covering Panchauli ranges to Shivalik Himalayas. After enjoying the nature at its best, head back towards the campsite for an overnight stay.
On this day, you will be heading back towards the starting point Lohajung. Enjoy the natural beauty in immense while covering the path. Once you reach Lohajung, explore this little town, talk with the local people and also try some local cuisine. Spend the night at the guesthouse.
After spending 5 amazing days in the lap of Himalayas, you will now head back to Kathgodam on the 6th and the last day. Drive through the scenic views of nature. Indulge in some shopping and eating at Kausani and then reach Kathgodam to end your tour.
